Building Related Hazards:
Lead Paint, Bed Bugs and More
Reported cases of lead paint poisoning skyrocketed in Maine multi-family properties due to the recent drop in the acceptable level allowed in the blood. Landlords are being required to abate their buildings at high cost and on short timelines. Learn how you can protect your tenants and avoid the expensive requirements which kick in once a tenant has tested positive. We will have 3 parts on lead paint education:
1) CDC- review of lead poisoning, change to blood lead law, subsequent code enforcement and abatement FAQ
2) Opportunities for landlords in terms of forgivable loans/ other city backed monies. You can also be available to answer questions about the HUD grant in the city.
3) RRP Certification and a Landlord survey
Bed bugs, mice, cockroaches…all critters that landlords and tenants do not want to deal with. Jim Carter, of Ants Plus, a favorite of SMLA, will talk about the latest pest trends (yes, more mice!) and what you can do to get ahead of it.
